The importance of understanding a one-rep max

A one-rep max is the maximum amount of weight a particular part of your body can lift at one time. The focus of this lesson is to teach you how your one-rep max is related to your fitness goals.

Your one-rep max uses bio-mechanic science to reach your goals

Your one-rep max allows you to use science to reach the goals you want for your muscles. If you can figure out approximately your one-rep max in each muscle, you know how much weight to use to achieve your fitness goals. Most fitness goals related to building muscle are to

    • build power
    • enlarge the growth and strength of your muscles
    • gain muscle endurance

You can also use a combination of gaining muscle endurance, strengthening your muscles, and building power when to build muscle mass and when you hit a plateau. 

How does understanding your one-rep max build lean muscle?

Since you are in a weight loss challenge course, the focus is on building anaerobic and aerobic strength by training your body to gain muscle endurance while losing weight at the same time. The benefit to your body of gaining muscle endurance is that it helps you build lean muscle and lose fat. As a result of gaining lean muscles, your body burns calories faster by speeding up your metabolism and focuses on depleting the muscle fibers that store the highest amount of fat content in your body.

Gaining muscle endurance and building lean muscle also starts a fantastic foundation for any other goal you may set related to your fitness journey.
