In this module, we explored the key principles of a healthy, balanced diet, including the five food groups, the MyPlate, healthy food choices, and macro and micro-nutrients. We have learned that a balanced diet is critical for maintaining good health and preventing chronic diseases and that making small changes in our diet can make a big difference in our overall health and well-being.
In Lesson 1, we discussed the importance of consuming a variety of foods from each of the five food groups, including fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and dairy, to ensure that the body gets all the essential nutrients it needs.
In Lesson 2, we introduced the MyPlate, a useful tool for ensuring that your meals are balanced and that you are consuming various foods. The MyPlate is divided into four sections: fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein, with a smaller circle next to the plate representing dairy.
In Lesson 3, we discussed the importance of making healthy food choices, focusing on nutrient-dense foods, and limiting the intake of added sugars, saturated and trans fats, and sodium. We also explored strategies for eating healthy when dining out and choosing healthier alternatives.
In Lesson 4, we learned about macro and micro-nutrients and why they are essential for overall health and well-being. We discussed the role of macro-nutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and micro-nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, and how to ensure we are getting the right amount of each in our diet.
By the end of this module, you should have a solid understanding of a balanced diet and how to build one that is right for you. You should also have the knowledge and tools to make healthier food choices and maintain a balanced diet for optimal health and well-being. So, let’s continue our journey into the world of nutrition and healthy habits.
